About SAN

Swastha Aviyan Nepal (SAN) is a non-governmental and non-profit-sharing organization dedicated to supporting the underprivileged with their critical healthcare needs. Established in August 2020 by a dedicated team of clinicians, public health experts, social activists, and administrators, we are committed to helping the needy access high-quality health services.

Our Vision & Mission

  • Vision: SAN envisions a country where the poor and needy have access to critical organ transplant services, alongside an enabling policy environment and strong social systems to expand these services.

  • Mission: Our mission is to improve access to critical organ transplant services for all Nepalis, regardless of their socio-economic status. We are dedicated to carrying out continuous activities for the prevention of organ failure and ensuring provisions for dialysis and transplantation, ultimately fostering a self-sufficient and patient-focused transplant ecosystem.

Our Holistic Approach

  • With the rise of non-communicable diseases, there is an urgent need to expand organ transplant services. We focus on both the curative and preventive aspects of health, targeting diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and kidney and liver conditions. Our holistic approach to healthcare centers on:

  • Quality and Affordable Service: Providing accessible care and life-saving treatments to all.

  • Public Awareness: Educating the community on disease prevention to stop organ failure before it starts.

  • Advocacy & Research: Working to create an enabling policy environment while continuously focusing on research and development to innovate care.

Our Expert Team & Leadership

SAN is powered by a multi-disciplinary team of nephrologists, public health experts, transplant surgeons, and social activists. Together, they bring the clinical, social, and financial expertise necessary to provide life-saving treatments to the poor and needy. Our initiatives are profoundly inspired by our leadership, including Dr. Pukar Chandra Shrestha, a transplant pioneer in Nepal who has been instrumental in making renal care accessible nationwide.

Our Core Facilities

While we are a broad advocacy organization, our direct medical care is delivered through two primary sister facilities:

  • SAN Hospital: Located in Bhaktapur, this facility introduces a bold, digitally-enabled, and sustainably operated model for care. It aims to provide quality services—including specialized organ transplantation—at an affordable cost or completely free of charge to poor and marginalized groups.

  • SAN Dialysis Centre: Operating in Kathmandu, this center provides high-quality hemodialysis treatments. Through spectacular operational efficiencies, we expand affordable dialysis services to underprivileged and marginalized communities.

Future Goals & Support

Looking ahead, SAN aims to expand its low-cost transplantation services nationwide. Our future goals include establishing additional dialysis centers across the country and empowering underprivileged communities toward self-sufficiency.

Because our revenues are obtained exclusively from donations, we rely heavily on the generosity of global donors, corporate partners, and compassionate individuals. We invite everyone to join this noble cause for humanity to ensure we can treat all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
